This
work is currently in storage.
Six non-representational reliefs constructed of
enamel-coated aluminum are installed individually
on levels 2,3 and 4 of the parking area stairwells.
The reliefs use a southwestern color palette.
Richard Gubernick’s piece Shards wavers
between recognizable forms and abstract shapes.
The pieces do not depict any identifiable objects
and non-representational in nature. However, the
shapes in each relief combined with vibrant colors
spark a sense of familiarity that can be compared
with patterns seen in southwestern weavings and
painting.
As
a whole, the work is made up of six separate relief
panels. The reliefs are made of aluminum and epoxy,
coated in automotive paint. Each panel is designed
with a combination of round and jagged edged forms,
using color as the subject of focus. In a few
one can see a hint of Native American symbols
whereas in others, the refliefs speak more of
modern machinery.
